Can you wash Tyvek? yeah… but don't overdo it
this comes up a lot, especially with bags or those Tyvek jackets people are into now.
short answer - yeah, you can wash it. it's not gonna fall apart in water or anything.
but that doesn't mean you should treat it like your regular laundry.
first thing - just wash it by hand if you can
honestly, this is the safest way.
lukewarm water, not hot.
a little bit of mild soap. nothing aggressive.
and just wipe it down.
that's it.
most of the time, dirt just sits on the surface anyway. you don't need to scrub hard. if you're scrubbing like crazy, you're already doing too much.
washing machine? …eh, not ideal
people do it. I've seen it.
if you really want to, use cold water and the gentlest cycle you've got. but just know - the more you do this, the more the material changes.
it starts off kind of stiff, like paper. after a few washes, it gets softer, almost fabric-like.
sometimes that's fine (some people actually like that look), but if you need it to stay crisp, don't put it in the machine.
dryer - just don't
this is where things go wrong.
Tyvek is plastic. heat is not your friend here.
put it in a dryer and you're basically asking it to warp or shrink or worse. I've seen it happen - it doesn't end well.
just hang it up. it dries fast anyway. like, really fast.
stains
if it's something like oil, just use a bit of dish soap on the spot.
it usually comes off without much effort. still, test a small area if you're not sure. no reason to risk it.
that's pretty much it
it's a tough material. water isn't the problem - heat is.
keep it cool, don't over-wash it, and it'll last a long time.
